Hi!
My name is Meg and I am 11 years young. I have been afforded the opportunity to be featured in my breakout role in a Dark comedy thriller -- with a dollop of wish-fulfillment fantasy.
It all started when my human (John V) decided to take me from my Georgian 1-bedroom apartment. It was us versus the open road that led us out west and towards the 2024 Austin Film Festival.
While I slept through most of it, my human did networking things and he was able to keep the conversation going with co-writers Mike Hanson & Kelly Moothart.
Fast-forward, I am now watching my human shape up this crowdfunding campaign.
[Thanks Meg, I will take it from here]
Short Summary
Hello! I’m John Varkados, a filmmaker with a passion for creating impactful, thought-provoking work. My background in producing 2 feature films, and multiple short films since 2015 has led me to this moment, where I’m ready to bring this latest project to life.
Here's the rundown:
Title of Short - The Revver
Logline - At wit's end with a motorhead neighbor always revving his big truck, a beleaguered artist takes matters into her own hands to finish her masterwork on time.
Tonal Comps - Killing Eve, Black Mirror, Fargo
Script Accolades: Coverfly TOP 1% in Genre/Format, Winner, Selling Your Screenplay - SYS's Six-Figure Screenplay Contest 2023, Second Rounder, Austin Film Festival 2024, etc.
This campaign is crucial to me because it represents not just our dreams, but also the stories and struggles of everyday people. With your support, we can achieve something extraordinary together, creating art that resonates and inspires.
My latest short film - An American Sunset - raised NOTHING, but with ONLY $1200.00 that I took from my housing stipend from the GI Bill (I served the Marine Corps from 2009 to 2014 honorably) while enrolled at the Savannah College of Art and Design (with some days sleeping in my car as Veterans understand you don't get the housing allowance until you have attended classes for at least one month from the start of enrollment every academic quarter), me and my friends of working-class people managed to win the 2023 Webby Awards and 2023 Telly Awards for what we pulled off.
I am now a typical full-time working American and I now have the opportunity to pull in the people who helped me on the last film and bring this amazing story to light.
This time we need a substantial budget and I am personally asking for your help.
What We Need & What You Get
I’m seeking to raise the bare minimum of $7000.00 to fund Principle Photography for 3, 8-hour shooting days. This will cover production insurance, equipment rentals, food for the crew strong-arming the labor, and festival fees, ensuring that every dollar is maximized for impact.
In return, I’m excited to offer unique perks that celebrate our journey together, such as an opportunity to have your name featured in the end credits as an Associate Producer, an exclusive VIP sync with Meg, and so much more.
If we don’t reach our full goal, don’t worry! Your contributions will still allow us to move forward with a scaled version of the project, ensuring your support makes a difference.
The Impact
Your involvement in this campaign will not only help bring our artistic vision to life but also contribute to a larger conversation about the conflict between the artist's creative process and external disruptive forces, specifically noise pollution and the challenges of maintaining focus and composure in the face of persistent irritation.
I have successfully completed similar projects in the past, including 2 thesis films at Boston University, music videos at Berklee College of Music, an episode from Season 2's First Time Fixer, and more - which gives me the confidence that we can make this one just as impactful.
Together, we can build a community around art that speaks to our shared experiences.
Risks & Challenges
While I’m committed to overcoming any challenges that arise, there are always hurdles in creative endeavors.
Potential risks include production delays or budget constraints, but I have a solid plan in place—I already created a preliminary budget and schedule via Movie Magic. My experience and dedication equip me to navigate these obstacles effectively.
Other Ways You Can Help
If you can’t contribute financially, don’t worry! You can still play an important role in this journey.
Please help spread the word about this campaign—share it with friends, family, and social media networks.
Every bit of awareness counts, and Indiegogo’s share tools make it easy to get the message out.
Your support, in any form, can make a significant impact!
It helps when you believe in something that makes your gut hurt.
Thank you for considering supporting this campaign.
Together, let's make something amazing happen!
P.S. Meg appreciates it too and takes autographs :)
